Recently, I took some photos for a little company called Jazzedge. Mostly head shots and pics for use in promotional material. What exactly is Jazzedge? Well, according to their website, Jazzedge “was founded by Berklee College of Music graduate, Willie Myette to place all of his jazz education and performance ventures under one “roof.” Today it has expanded its educational resources to also incompass theater lessons, many more piano styles, and soon subtitled lessons.” You can learn more about them here: www.jazzedge.com
A few weeks ago, they hooked up with SWAP Inc. –– a local non–profit organization –– to host a small music workshop for kids (you can learn more about SWAP here: www.swapinc.org). I’ll let Jazzedge explain it a little better:
“We have been looking for an opportunity to create a workshop for kids and also give back to the community as well. In January of this year, we were approached by non- profit organization, SWAP Inc., to participate in event that met all our needs. I began the process by gathering as much information as possible of the event by having constant communication with Maria Pree, SWAP Inc. head organizer of the event.
Maria was looking to do a whole week long event to promote real music to the youth of the Providence, RI area and wanted Willie to begin the week off with a bang and perform a workshop for the kids. The kids ranged from 7 to 13 years old and there would be around 15 kids attending the event.
Willie is truly an amazing teacher. He was able to entertain, teach and make the kids appreciate different forms of music. Music is the only language in the world that everyone can understand and appreciate. The kids had blast, including the SWAP employees. No one wanted Willie to stop but sadly everything must come to end.”
So Jazzedge asked me to tag along and take some photos. The guy playing all of the instruments is Willie (not to be confused with all of the little kids playing instruments).
